"Dog Day in The Plains" to Benefit Humane Foundation

A wide variety of activities are planned for Saturday, July 24, in The Plains, Virginia, to raise awareness and funds to support the work of the Middleburg Humane Foundation.

"Dog Day in The Plains" will take place from 11:00am until 3:00pm at several locations along Main Street. Admission is free, but donations to MHF would be appreciated.

The Middleburg Humane Foundation is a private nonprofit farm shelter, located between Marshall and The Plains, that specializes in the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of abused, neglected and at-risk animals.

Planned activities include:

• an ice-cream social;
• a puppet-show "opera" called The Barker of Seville, presented by Bluemont and the Blue Sky Puppet Theatre;
• book-signings by three local authors of pet-themed books;
• a dog agility demonstration;
• raffles, prizes, and give-aways.

Representatives of the Middleburg Humane Foundation will be on hand with dogs available for adoption and information on animal rescue and pet care.

The event is being coordinated by The Plains Main Street merchants, who will also hold pet-themed promotions in their shops and donate a portion of their sales proceeds for that day.
